Types of Roofing

Which roofing materials are the most common?

Asphalt: The average lifespan is 5-10 years; it could be used for sheds and exterior buildings, however you should not consider it for your home’s roof. In order to extend it’s lifespan, keep it clear of debris (leaves, tee branches, etc.)
Composite Shingle: This is the most common roofing material; the average lifespan is 15-50 years. Extend this roofing material’s lifespan by clearing debris, including moss as soon as it begins to grow. Whether you’re looking for a light gray shingle, brown, red or blue, the options are endless with composite shingles.
Metal Roof: You may notice metal roofing is growing in popularity over the years. This roofing material is study and has a lifespan of 3-50 years. To extend a metal roof’s lifespan, it is important to check your roof for distressed, bent or panels that have moved over time. The color and style choices vary, from white to copper.
Clay Roof: Although clay roofing is most common in California, Spain and South America, terracotta tiles add a touch of the Mediterranean to your home. Avoid walking on these tiles as they can easily crack; replace cracked tiles as these issues arise. The average lifespan of a clay tile roof is about 100 years, if properly cared for.
